ENKAM’s Protein Mimetic Technology Platform (PMTP™) combines a series of technologies related to relationship between structure and activity of larger multifunctional proteins. Functional peptide sequences are identified, tested and via property based design transformed into peptides with more specific activities.
ENKAM has used PMTP™ to produce peptides derived from several different proteins that in addition to NCAM, FGF, the neurotrophins, GDNF and HER, also includes erythropoietin (EPO), Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor (FGFR), Brain-Derived Neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and others.
The ENKAM peptide compounds have a number of advantages over proteins. They are designed to have a more specific activity, thereby reducing unwanted side effects. They are easy to manufacture and can be produced cheaper than the original protein. They are in general easy to administer, and can be given intranasally and subcutaneously. Some peptides can cross the blood brain barrier, making them particularly suitable for the treatment of CNS disorders and others does not cross the blood brain barrier or can be modified not to.
